Five years old she’s got her mamas eyes
Ribbons in her hair an angel in disguise
She spreads her wings wishing she could fly
And defines to me the true meaning of life.
And through her eyes this world makes sense
And beneath her smile lies only innocence
Her mama taught her two wrongs don’t make a right
As war surrounds us her tears beg me not to fight
Catch my breath, dry my eyes, and begin to walk away
Wishing I could see through her eyes for just one more day.
It’s hard to sleep when you’re all alone
Counting the days till they send me home
And by my heart lies a picture of her
Reminding me what I’m fighting for
And through her eyes this world makes sense
And beneath her smile lies only innocence
Her mama taught her two wrongs don’t make a right
As war surrounds us her tears beg me not to fight
Catch my breath, dry my eyes, and begin to walk away
Wishing I could see through her eyes for just one more day.
My heart beats a little harder as the bus starts to slow
It’s been almost two years since I was so close to home
And there she is with ribbons all up in her hair
A promise of love shines through her tearful stare.
And for a moment she showed me the world
It all made sense when I held my baby girl.
